Baelor is almost 2 years old and an Aussie/Springer mix.  Baelor was brought in by her owner because he doesn't have time for her anymore. She was very skiddish when she first came in , but she has warmed up to staff quickly. She really is a beautiful girl and deserves an owner who will make time for her.

Scarlet is a Golden Lab mix approximately 2 years old. She came to us as a stray. She is a wonderful girl. Listens so well, knows commands, is affectionate and playful. She would make a wonderful addition to any family.

If you've often thought that your cat or dog (or chicken) would be great at cheering people in nursing homes or hospitals, reading with kids in schools or helping college students Pet Away Worries and Stress, maybe you'd like to get them certified through an organization like Therapy Dogs International or Pet Partners.

Scootie | Contented Critters
Meet Scootie. Scootie is a male Heeler and Shih Tzu mix about 4 yrs old. He is an adorable little guy, but he tends to pick one person and be overly protective. He needs an owner familiar with the Heeler personality and who can be HIS leader. He has been in agility classes and excels in having a job. He just wants a job, a human and a strong leader. He has been neutered vet checked and vaccinated.

Honey is a beautiful cream and white Alaskan Husky mix who is 9 years old. She came to us from a previous home and is now looking for her new loving home. Honey can be shy at first, but once she warms up to you she is very friendly. This sweet girl is also very smart and knows how to sit and shake!

Abby is almost 2 years old and a Lab mix. Abby and her sister Trouble came from another rescue. They were scared when they first came in, but these girls are so sweet. They warmed up swiftly to getting love and attention. They will make wonderful companion dogs.

You've found a stray animal in the Northland. You'd like to be sure it gets safely to an animal shelter. But...which one?

On today's Forever Home, Pat Castellano, Humane Educator for Animal Allies in Duluth gives advice on which shelter is the right one to call.  Duluth Animal Services ((218) 723-3259) is the location for strays in the City of Duluth, while Animal Allies (218) 722-5341) takes in animals found in Hermantown, Rice Lake Township, and other nearby municipalities.

Here are the Pets of the Week:

KUMD member Roy Lundquist called with some happy news after hearing about Shadow on last week's program - Shadow is happily settling into his forever home with Roy and their cat!

Penny is female Boxer /Shepherd mix that is almost 2 years old. Penny has spent a year of those 2 years at the shelter. She is a very smart and affectionate girl. She just becomes protective of her family. Penny just needs an owner she trusts to follow their lead. She deserves a chance to shine.

Shadow is a 9 year old male Lab mix. Shadow has been with us for almost 2 years. He was brought in because his owners got divorced. It is so unfortunate that he hasn't been adopted, because some family is really missing out on a great dog. He is playful, polite, healthy and loving to all.

This week, we're featuring the usual crew of four-leggeds looking for their forever homes ... plus spotlighting a group of sled dogs that have finally found theirs!  You can listen to the story here:

Rowdy is a handsome brindle Alaskan Husky mix who is a 5 years old. He came to us from a previous home and is now looking for his new loving home! This sweet guy has tons of energy that he likes to exhaust by playing with his toys and going swimming! Rowdy also knows how to sit and shake, and gets along well with other dogs and kids!

It was a plot (almost) worthy of a Sharknado-type movie: hundreds of goldfish inhabiting the UMD campus's Rock Pond back in 2004.

But folks dumping their unwanted aquarium fish and plants in local waters are a real-life nightmare: in addition to the cruelty of dumping fish into an environment they're not suited for, if they do survive, they and the plants become invasives who may also spread diseases.

Nanni | Animal Allies - is a black and white domestic medium hair who is about 14 years old. She came to us from a previous home and is now looking for her new loving home! She is a sweet, affectionate cat looking for a quiet home to relax in. She can be a little timid, but opens up to people when given the chance!

Arnold | Animal Allies - Arnold is a black and tan Coonhound who is 4.5 years old. He came to us as a transfer from the City of Duluth and is now looking for his new loving home! Arnold is a powerful boy who is looking for an equally strong owner, could it be you?! Being a Coonhound, Arnold loves to use his sniffer to find every last piece of food that may have escaped from his bowl. Daily exercise would be ideal for this big boy.

Aladdin | Animal Allies
Aladdin is a two year old lab mix that came to us from another organization. He is a happy-go-lucky boy that loves to play! He gets along well with other dogs. Aladdin would benefit with work with a trainer to continue working on his manners.
