UMD School of Fine Arts

UMD art students open a new exhibit at the Tweed Museum of Art on Tuesday, August 29 called "Water Isn't Free" with a reception from 4-6.p.m.  Their exhibit was inspired by their time in a study abroad class this summer which took them to incredible global exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland, to discover new cultures of art and appreciation.

It's more fun than street repair or replacing old sewer pipes ... and it's got its own funding stream.

Now there are five goals and five "next steps" outlined by the mayor, UMD's School of Fine Arts and the Duluth Public Arts Commission to cultivate the arts, engage neighborhoods, expand the audience for all kinds of arts - and git 'er done.

Next week ceramic artists Molly Streiff and Andrew Rivera open their senior art exhibit at the Tweed Museum of Art.  Seniors in the UMD School of Fine Arts, Streiff and Rivera are showing their work together after many years of sharing studio space and throwing pots side by side.  Inspired by ceremonial vessels used in burial and the daily rituals surrounding food and drink, their exhibit  spotlights ritual in life and in death.

Their exhibit "Ritual" is on display Tuesday April 4 - April 9 at the Tweed with an opening  reception, Tuesday April 4, 4-6pm.

The formula: 6 playwrights, 6 directors, 24 actors, and 1 musical guest create six new short plays in the course of a single day — and perform them in front of a live audience that night. The result: The 24 Hour Plays.
