Minnesota native and co-founder of the Jayhawks Olson returns to our studios with his wife and musical partner Ringvold (a native of Norway) on Wednesday, December 13 at 2pm. They'll share tunes from their new CD, Spokeswoman of the Bright Sun, which they recorded at their home in Joshua Tree, and we'll find out more about the album. They perform the same night at the Red Herring Lounge in Duluth.

Maybe it's a little step, but for the first time, UMD's Music Department is sponsoring a recital of queer-identified faculty.

Derek Bromme, Elizabeth Fisher, Elias Mokole and Tom Hamilton of UWS are performing tonight at 7:30 at the Weber Music Hall in The Rainbow Connection Concert.

The Underground's artistic director, Robert Lee, says a deep connection to the music on 2009's concept album - and the stage show that followed - has people who wanted to be in, work on and now see the show coming out in droves.

For Women’s History Month we honor indie folk-rock singer-songwriter Haley Bonar. With ties to Duluth and Minneapolis she has taken her talents to the world stage.  She has had success with a number of full-length studio albums and now plays often with her side project “Gramma’s Boyfriend.” Bonar is an inspiration to female musicians with a great future ahead of her. 

Ojibwe Stories: Gaganoonididaa this month features Larry Amik Smallwood, a language instructor at the University of Minnesota Duluth, who (in both Ojibwe and English) talks about ongoing changes in Ojibwe culture in areas such as music, dance and traditional regalia.
