Annie Dugan's got State Fair fever as she contemplates award-winning Duluth artists (Brent Kustermann, John Salminen and John Skarja), seed art, Art on a Stick and more.

Mn State Fair

Since KUMD is "Live at the Minnesota State Fair" this Thursday, Radio Gallery chats with Jim Carter, the Fine Arts exhibit Superintendent at the 2015 MN State Fair.  Carter shares details about putting the show together and the stiff competition this year with a record number of submissions. The exhibit is a favorite of many and the Minnesota State Fair Foundation sponsored a special "First Glance" opening reception before the fair opened this year.  This exhibit is open every day 9am - 9pm through Labor Day.

The Minnesota State Fair is more than just livestock and food on a stick; Annie Dugan, curator of the Duluth Art Institute recommends you check out the Fine Arts Building (and or the exhibit of seed art.)

A challenge:  Annie says pick a piece that catches your eye (or stop every ten paces or so and choose the piece you're standing in front of),  then set your phone's stopwatch and just look at one piece of art carefully for two minutes.  Then walk on a bit and try it again with another art work.

It's almost time for the Fair! Not another art fair, but the juried art exhibition that is open to all Minnesotans, The Minnesota State Fair juried Fine Arts Building exhibition.
