103.3 The Basement is a proud sponsor of Plys with Purpose opening at Prove Gallery on Friday, November 18th from 7pm-10pm. The gallery will showcase a silent auction of 30 crafted skateboard decks by local, national, and international artists with proceeds going to the Gary New Duluth Development Alliance for their ongoing efforts to build a public, stat-of-the-art skateboard park in Gary New Duluth. In the last three years, Plys with Purpose has included more than 100 artists, and this year, we will catch up with those artists who are new and returning.

KUMD will be broadcasting The Great Northern Radio Show On Saturday November 12, live from the Lincoln Park Middle School auditorium and although you can hear it on your radio, there is nothing quite like seeing live radio theater.


College radio stations around the world are celebrating College Radio Day with their fans on November 4, 2016. We are taking part with The Basement Takeover!

Tune in all day to hear students and their playlists of new alternative music from hip-hop to indie rock to electronic. Expect to hear new Frank Ocean, Bon Iver, Danny Brown, and underground bands you can't hear anywhere other than on The Basement. Northland Morning's Radio Theatre will be carried out by students, and Music Through the Day will be DJ by The Basement DJ's.

We are proud to partner with Save the Boundary Waters, and MPIRG at UMD for a screening of the new Year in the Wilderness documentary, Bear Witness, with Dave and Amy Freeman

WHEN: Monday, October 24 at 6:30pm
WHERE: LSBE 118 on the UMD campus

After the screening, explorers Dave and Amy Freeman will be there to answer questions about their adventure. There will also be a post program social hour with KUMD music in the background. 


KUMD is a proud sponsor of Low: Remixing Shakespeare at Karpeles Manuscript Library, a concert with original music by Low, performed as a live score to silent film adaptations of "The Tempest" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Congratulations to all the KUMD listeners who won tickets ~ enjoy the show!

The 2nd annual UMD Entrepreneurship Conference is completely student run. The Conference offers a wide range of speakers from local small business owners to CEOs. Tom Hanson of Duluth Grill will be sharing insight on the restaurant industry, and Greg Benson, CEO of Loll Designs will be presenting a keynote speech. 

Workshops on how to start a small business and the legal side to starting a business are also offered. The Conference takes place on Tuesday October 18th in UMD's Kirby Ballroom from 8:00am until 7:00pm.

A musical celebration in honor of John Bushey, Host of Highway 61 Revisited on KUMD 103.3 FM, was held Saturday, October 15, 2016 at The Rex Bar Fitger's. It was a night full of music and special guests honoring the local Dylanologist, magician, collector, historian, educator, and amazing community volunteer who's been bringing us a weekly dose of Bob Dylan music and information for 25 years.

We are proud to partner with the UMD Alumni Association and the Duluth Area YMCA to bring you the UMD Alumni Rolling Greens Homecoming Carnival. The family-friendly event will have music curated by KUMD DJ's, carnival games, a bouncy house, hotdogs and more! It takes place behind Malosky stadium after the homecoming parade (which is on-campus this year!) and before the football game from 11:30am until 12:30pm. Stop by and say hi!

The 4th annual BradtoberFest Run/Rawk/Crawl will take place in Duluth on Sunday, October 2nd. The celebration connects Duluth's craft beer, music, and running communities, offering samples, live performances, and a traverse across the city to local breweries and venues! And it's for a good cause! The proceeds will support programs such as the Duluth Music Resource Center and Friends of Brad Memorial Foundation's scholarship, fellowship, and other charitable programs to benefit young musicians.

Registration begins at 11am at Bent Paddle Brewery. See you there!

On Sunday, September 18th, UMD's Sustainable Agricultural Project is throwing the Food and Farm Festival. The eventruns from 10am to 2pm and features a local meal prepared with UMD Farm produce, live local music by Borderstone, activities for kids including a petting zoo, and a scenic 5k trail run/walk through the farm property. All proceeds benefit the Sustainable Agriculture Project.

The Food and Farm Festival is happening at the UMD Sustainable Agriculture Project Farm, 3568 Riley Road in Duluth just off Jean Duluth Rd.

Congratulations to all the KUMD listeners who won passes to Festival Palomino happening Saturday, September 17!  Note venue change to Hall's Island in Minneapolis.

After 23 years of celebrating our region's food culture, the 2016 Harvest Festival promises to be one of the best and largest farmers' markets in the area! Happening on Saturday, September 10th at Bayfront Festival Park, the celebration will feature live music, crafts, nonprofit showcase, educational activities, family activities (like a big obstacle course), and more. 

KUMD is a proud sponsor of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds new film, One More Time With Feeling, premiering at Zinema 2 on Thursday, September 8th at 9:00pm. The showing will be the first opportunity to listen to the new album Skelton Tree is set to drop on September 9th.
