Entering its thirteenth year as an annual summer music festival, Pitchfork Music Festival looks to continue it’s promise of on-brand entertainment that fans and followers have come to expect from the publication. Returning to Chicago’s Union Park, just outside the heart of the city, the festival boasts an impressive line-up of seasoned and up-and-coming acts from a variety of genres. With a strong and endearing line-up, here’s what you can expect from the festival to ensure you get the best Pitchfork experience:

KUMD is a proud sponsor of Duluth Readerfest: The Best Festival Money Can't Buy! Cloud Cult will return to the Bayfront stage joined by a variety local bands and musicians: Alamode, Todd Eckart, Woodblind, Nat Harvie Trio, and Ingeborg von Agassiz. The music will start at 3pm. The Kids Korner will be open from 3-6pm featuring Dan the Monday Man, a climbing wall, a bounce house, face painting, and a magic village.

The Harvest Festival is an annual event put on by the Lake Superior Chapter of the Sustainable Farming Association. This fun family festival will feature one of largest farmers’ markets in the region, along with live music, an energy fair, handmade crafts, nonprofit showcase, live demonstrations, educational exhibits and a food court. Entry and parking are free to the public.

One of Duluth's most famous bluegrass/folk bands, Trampled by Turtles, performs live at Bayfront Festival Park on July 7. The concert will feature special guests including Bad Bad Hats, Charlie Parr, The Last Revel, Superior Siren, and Teague Alexy Band.

Soundset

 

Hip Hot Hotdish hosts Paul Jensen (K.K. Sliderr) and Eli Hammarsteen (Big Fat Eli) were fortunate enough to attend this year’s installation of Soundset Music Festival at the Minnesota Fairgrounds this past weekend. They were joined by Programming Director, Mark Idstrom, and together experienced much of the diverse musical acts and experiences the festival has to offer. Paul sat down with the two after the festival to gather some of their thoughts on this year’s entertainment. Here’s what they had to say:

The North Carolina brothers, Scott and Seth Avett along with Bob Crawford, Joe Kwon, Tania Elizabeth, and Mike Marsh make up the American folk rock band. They are recognized for electrifying live performances featuring songs about life, joy, and tragedy.

Park Point Art Fair

The Park Point Art Fair is an annual celebration of art and community right next to the sand shores of Lake Superior. This event is free admission and will feature 120 artists, live music, food, and family art activities.

Don Ness Shows Off Duluth

Don Ness Shows Off Duluth is the second event at NorShor Theatre highlighting local talent during an evening of music, comedy, and special guests. Guests include two time Olympian Kara Goucher, electronic folk artist Ingeborg von Agassiz, folk trio Lowland Lakers, comedians Mary Mack and Tim Harmston, and several other guest appearances. The variety-show will move from music to stand-up and sketch comedy. Tune in during The Local at 5pm on KUMD Wednesday, May 30th for your chance to win a pair of tickets to the show!
