If you read "Opening of the art exhibition "North of Superior," featuring oil pastel drawings of the Duluth area...." Chris Monroe is not the artist you would think of first.

Chris Monroe is wearing a lot of hats these days.  Author, illustrator, artist, cartoonist, playwright ...

But she's about to step into the scary spotlight of the Park Point Art Fair for the first time, and she doesn't know if her reception will be closer to the fan who gushed, "It's that cartoonist that's in the Star Tribune!" or more like the Duluth news anchor who once commented about her work in a local publication: "Apparently a second grader is doing their art now."

Our guest today is Duluth artist, cartoonist, and author Chris Monroe, showing new work in December at the Red Mug Coffee House and Gallery in Superior. The show is called Creatures Were Stirring and includes a variety of themes of wild animals stealing food and other creature calamity.  Monroe has a tradition of sharing new work in December and the show will likely please the fans with some moderately sized and priced works.  The opening reception for Creatures Were Stirring happens this Thursday, December 3, 5-7pm.  

Chris Monroe is a Duluth based illustrator, artist, and famous children’s book author. she is best known for her comic strip “Violet Days,” and her list of popular books include the “Monkey with a Toolbelt” series, “Sneaky Sheep” and her recent release Bug on a Bike. Monroe says, “I want to encourage people to tell stories and draw pictures, even if you think you can’t draw. It’s good for your brain.”

  This week, Radio Gallery welcomes Duluth Public Schools Art Teacher, Chrissy Valento to talk about "Art for Ed's Sake," the annual fundraiser dinner and art auction happening March 20 at The Depot.  If you don't have a ticket, cocktail hour is open to all from 6-7pm where you have the option to bid in the art auction or "buy now." Art for Ed's Sake also includes a night of music from Big Dave and the Ripples and the Youth art exhibit on display at the Depot through March.

Monday December 8th, from 5-7p.m. one of Duluth's favorite children's author and illustrator, Chris Monroe is opening a show of new work at Zeitgeist Arts Caf? on Superior Street.

This week Radio Gallery spotlights the work of Chris Monroe a local cartoonist, illustrator, and author. The Duluth Art Institute is holding a summer gallery celebration featuring Monroe's work on Thursday July 12th from 5pm-7pm.
