12/15 Women's Words: Tina Higgins

Tina Higgins has an MFA in Creative Writing from Hamline University. She currently lives in Duluth and teaches writing at Lake Superior College. She has worked for three years as the Creative Writing Instructor for the Arts Program through CHOICE unlimited, a day program for adults with disabilities.

Tina's fiction has been published online in Brink Magazine and The Furnace Review. You can find her poetry in Sheila Packa's anthology, "Migrations." Fascinated by the power of art collaboration, Tina is currently involved in a film project with Dan Dresser. Braving winter in Duluth, they are working together to take the poet off the stage and the words off the page in order to create a short film of Tina's poem "Sea Fog." This film will air on January 2nd when Tina and local artist Melissa Weisser unveil a long standing collaboration of visual art inspired by poetry at Beaner's Central.

Tina also hosts Spoken Word Open Mic at Beaner's Central every third Thursday where she hopes even the most quiet poets will have a safe and supportive listening room. The next Spoken Word Open Mic is on December 19th.
