Sheila Packa, the Poet Laureate of Duluth, is a 1981 graduate of UMD. She will give her first reading as the 2010-2012 Duluth Poet Laureate on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m in the Weber Music Hall with Kathy McTavish accompanying Packa's reading on Cello.
Packa speaks with Radio Gallery this week about her role as Poet Laureate. She shares her plans and ideas for bringing poetry into the public eye. Packa also talks about her projects such as "Dear Bird" and gives an insight into her use of various forms of art from film to music in her presentations. She has published work and does readings, as well as spoken word performances. Her passion for writing and poetry stemmed from a writing club she joined in her 20's and has developed into a passion she uses in order to share and explore ideas. Listen to hear one of her poems that she shares with Radio Gallery, and to learn more about her poetry and what it means to be Poet Laureate.
