Brenda Paro is a writer and photographer who is presenting her new work in an exhibit called "Subtle Cargoes" at Washington Gallery. It opens Friday July 9th from 6 to 8 p.m and shows Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 pm through July 25th. Brenda speaks with Radio Gallery about the journey she traveled that inspired her to create art that combined her photography and poetry using different printing techniques and materials.
Paro is an artist who grew up in southern Minnesota, but then took some time to travel across the country. During this time she took many pictures on the road in places from Minnesota to Texas and sporadically scribbled lines of poetry on napkins. Paro tells Radio Gallery how she used these images, and these lines of poetry in order to create her show called "Subtle Cargoes." Some are more complex, while others are much more simple, but they all have a level of depth that provides much insight into the message of the road and her journey. With each piece having many layers with photographs and poetry, Paro has made pieces of art that create an impressionistic effect. The opening reception is Friday, July 9th from 6 to 8 pm at Washington Gallery located at 315 N Lake Ave, Duluth, MN. Her show is also on exhibit through July 25th on Saturdays and Sundays 1-5 pm, or by arrangement.
