While there’s no shame in calling Homegrown and snipping off the wristband after Saturday night,  Brunch and Recovery Sunday is there for those who need it.

A gorgeous morning drew a sizeable crew to Chester Park bright and early (in rock star time) for a Rock and Run at Chester Park to begin Homegrown, Day 7.

Most buzzed-about happenings of Homegrown, Day 6, roughly in order:  Fred Tyson in a homemade, kiddy-car style Cadillac propelled by Chad Lyons (of the Bottle Jockeys) in drag causing a commotion up and down Superior Street. Crazy cool laser projections of the Homegrown Chicken on the side of Blacklist. The Latelys set at the Rex. Fortunately, unlike in the early days of Homegrown, if you missed any of these things, there’s plenty of social media documentation to get you up to speed.

Homegrown Day 5 opened with an unofficial festival event that’s been happening so long they might as well put it in the field guide next year. SoupB4Supe offered up delicious soups ranging from vegan hot and sour to potato jalapeno and a warm communal feel as Homegrown musicians and fans mingled in the kitchen, on the porch, at the foosball table, or in the backyard of the venue dubbed 2104. Homegrown committee member Erin Naughton-Garrison presented Starfire with a cake in honor of his upcoming 50th birthday.

Homegrown Music Festival 2018: Day 4

It’s a bit mind-blowing to see an 11-year-old female lead singer nail everything from Stevie Ray Vaughn to Metallica to the B-52’s “Love Shack” while the 16-year-old female guitarist shreds along.

Tuesday, Day 3 of Homegrown, saw much of the action shift to Canal Park where fans could easily loop between Vikre, Amazing Grace, and the Sports Garden, or hop across the Lake Avenue Bridge and take in nearby shows at Prove Gallery or Dubh Linn.

Homegrown Mondays are usually pretty chill. Dubbed “ancillary arts night,” it’s when the photo show,  the first run of the music video festival, and the poetry showcase all happen. On this particular Monday, though, things got interesting when an unannounced show from Trampled by Turtles threw festival-goers into a tizzy. More on that later.
