Program Director Maija Jenson invites you to share your programming comments or to get involved at the station. KUMD thrives on your involvement, through member support, volunteer efforts and community participation.  Maija joined the KUMD team in 2008.  She is the host of the weekly arts program "Radio Gallery" and is one of the many staff, student and volunteer djs that make KUMD your community connection. She brings a lifetime of public radio listening, degrees in journalism and art and 15 years of public radio experience from KFAI, WHA, WSUM and KUMD.   Maija was raised in northern Minnesota by activist artist hippies with no TV but lots of public radio including the CBC, MPR and KAXE.  Besides music, radio, teaching and art, Maija enjoys an active life in the great outdoors with her family.

This year's Arrowhead Biennial began on November 4th, 2010 and will be featured through February 6th, 2011 at the Duluth Art Institute located at 2229 West 2nd Street. This week Radio Gallery speaks with Paula Brandel, Executive Director of the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and this year's juror for the exhibition.

Ann Gumpper, a scenic designer who has done work with the Minnesota Ballet, the Duluth Playhouse, and much more is currently working in collaboration with Duluth's Teatro Zuccone on the Man of La Mancha. It will be performed at the Teatro Zuccone located at 222 E. Superior Street in downtown Duluth on December 2nd-4th from 9:00-11:00, December 16th-18th at 7:30, and December 5th, 12th, and 19th at 2:00.

Elizabeth James is an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota Duluth for ceramics. The current exhibition at the Duluth Art Institute features her work in a show called "Borrowed Essence." It will be on display at the Duluth Art Institute until December 5th, 2010 located at 506 W Michigan St.

Erik Pearson is a St. Paul artist with Superior roots who is the artist collaborating with the Superior Business Improvement District and the Superior Council for the Arts on a project called the "Back Door Project." He speaks with Radio Gallery about his exciting project of painting murals on the back entrances of buildings in Superior on Tower Avenue such as Who's Bar.

Sheila Packa, the Poet Laureate of Duluth, is a 1981 graduate of UMD. She will give her first reading as the 2010-2012 Duluth Poet Laureate on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m in the Weber Music Hall with Kathy McTavish accompanying Packa's reading on Cello.
