ZCGC makes music for the space between your ears, engaging both brain and booty. Biography: Zenith City Groove Collective aims to engage both brain and booty, providing a pleasurable listening experience while simultaneously making you twist your head to make sure you heard what you thought you heard. Founded in 2017 by Duluthian transplant Todd Garland the group challenges both listener and performer as unconventional pop and rock covers of Nirvana and The Beatles sit alongside modern groove tunes of John Scofield, Charlie Hunter and Chris Potter. ZCGC is the perfect antidote to whatever it is that troubles you. You will be a different you after their show, for better of for worse. The group is anchored and led by Garland, who spent his time in the Atlanta and Chicago music scenes with bands opening for acts such as Los Lobos, Sister Hazel, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, & Robert Randolph & the Family Band. While rock has been his main form of musical expression it has always been the communication of ideas through musical improvisation that has kept him moving forward. Joining him is UMD/UWS guitar professor Jake Jonker (The Formal Age), UMD music school graduate Nick Glass (Adam Herman) on bass and local sax man about town Keith Bower (The Legendary Hell Puppies.) Together they create a musical experience like none other in the Twin Ports. Moving through neo jazz funk and old school boogaloo with a dash of modern madness this crafty quartet keeps your ears on their toes.
